Program Description

From Obscurity to Greatness: Illinois' Lincoln

In 1830, the young State of Illinois was relatively unknown with mostly undeveloped land and an uncertain future. That same year a young man, also unknown and undeveloped with an uncertain future, arrived in Illinois. The next 30 years would see the transformation of both Illinois and Abraham Lincoln. By 1860, Illinois would become the nation’s fourth largest state, full of energy, promise, and seen as a microcosm of the entire nation. And Lincoln would become president of the United States.

Hear Abraham Lincoln himself tell the story of how both he and Illinois rose from obscurity to greatness.

Performer Kevin Wood is a professional Abraham Lincoln presenter who bears a remarkable resemblance to Mr. Lincoln and has very extensive knowledge of his life and times.
